Description

The Perfect Tuna Melt is a classic comfort food sandwich that combines creamy tuna salad, melted mozzarella cheese, and crispy, buttery toasted bread. Ready in just 20 minutes, this quick and satisfying recipe is perfect for a comforting lunch or dinner. The rich combination of flavors and textures in this easy tuna melt recipe makes it a must-try for anyone who loves simple, hearty meals.

Ingredients

2 (5 oz) cans of tuna, drained

1 medium onion, chopped

½ stalk of celery, chopped

1 clove garlic, minced

1 tablespoon parsley, chopped

34 tablespoons mayonnaise

3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (divided)

1/3 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

Sliced bread

Softened butter

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Tuna Salad:
In a medium bowl, combine the drained tuna with chopped onion, celery, parsley, minced garlic, mayonnaise, olive oil, and shredded mozzarella cheese. Mix well and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  2. Toast the Bread:
Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Spread butter on one side of a slice of bread and place it butter-side down in the skillet.
  3. Assemble the Sandwich:
Scoop about 2 tablespoons of tuna salad onto the bread in the skillet. Butter another slice of bread and place it on top of the tuna salad, butter-side up.
  4. Cook the Sandwich:
Cook until the bottom is golden brown (about 3-4 minutes). Carefully flip the sandwich with a spatula and cook the other side until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Serve:
Remove from the skillet and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Cheese Variations: Substitute mozzarella with cheddar, Swiss, or any other cheese that melts well for a different flavor.
  • Flavor Boost: Add extra seasonings like dill, mustard, or a squeeze of lemon juice to enhance the flavor of the tuna salad.
  • Whole Wheat Bread: For a slightly healthier alternative, use whole wheat bread while still achieving a nice crunch.
  • Vegetable Add-ins: Add chopped bell peppers, cucumbers, or olives to the tuna salad for more flavor and texture.
  • Lighten It Up: Substitute light mayo or Greek yogurt in place of regular mayonnaise for a lighter version.
  • Butter-Free: Use olive oil or cooking spray to toast the bread for a lower-fat option.
