Ingredients
2 (5 oz) cans of tuna, drained
1 medium onion, chopped
½ stalk of celery, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tablespoon parsley, chopped
3–4 tablespoons mayonnaise
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (divided)
1/3 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
Sliced bread
Softened butter
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the Tuna Salad:
In a medium bowl, combine the drained tuna with chopped onion, celery, parsley, minced garlic, mayonnaise, olive oil, and shredded mozzarella cheese. Mix well and season with salt and pepper to taste. - Toast the Bread:
Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Spread butter on one side of a slice of bread and place it butter-side down in the skillet. - Assemble the Sandwich:
Scoop about 2 tablespoons of tuna salad onto the bread in the skillet. Butter another slice of bread and place it on top of the tuna salad, butter-side up. - Cook the Sandwich:
Cook until the bottom is golden brown (about 3-4 minutes). Carefully flip the sandwich with a spatula and cook the other side until golden brown and crispy. - Serve:
Remove from the skillet and serve immediately.
Notes
- Cheese Variations: Substitute mozzarella with cheddar, Swiss, or any other cheese that melts well for a different flavor.
- Flavor Boost: Add extra seasonings like dill, mustard, or a squeeze of lemon juice to enhance the flavor of the tuna salad.
- Whole Wheat Bread: For a slightly healthier alternative, use whole wheat bread while still achieving a nice crunch.
- Vegetable Add-ins: Add chopped bell peppers, cucumbers, or olives to the tuna salad for more flavor and texture.
- Lighten It Up: Substitute light mayo or Greek yogurt in place of regular mayonnaise for a lighter version.
- Butter-Free: Use olive oil or cooking spray to toast the bread for a lower-fat option.
