Scalloped Sweet Potatoes are the perfect blend of creamy textures and the natural sweetness of tender sweet potatoes. With layers of rich cream, garlic powder, and sharp cheddar cheese, this dish is baked to golden perfection and guaranteed to be a crowd-pleaser. Whether for a holiday feast or a cozy weeknight dinner, these scalloped sweet potatoes are sure to have everyone coming back for seconds.

Ingredients

2 pounds medium-sized sweet potatoes

1 cup heavy cream

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon pepper

1 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. 1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
  2. 2. Prepare the Sweet Potatoes: Peel and thinly slice the sweet potatoes into uniform rounds, about 1/8 inch thick.
  3. 3. Make the Creamy Mixture: In a bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until smooth and combined.
  4. 4. Layer the Dish: Place half of the sliced sweet potatoes in the prepared baking dish, then pour half of the creamy mixture over them and sprinkle with half of the grated cheddar cheese. Repeat with the remaining sweet potatoes, pouring the rest of the creamy mixture on top, and finishing with the remaining cheese.
  5. 5. Bake: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, uncover the dish and bake for an additional 20-30 minutes, or until the sweet potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown and bubbly.
  6. 6. Serve: Once the scalloped sweet potatoes are done, let them cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Add herbs: For extra flavor, layer in fresh thyme, rosemary, or sage between the sweet potatoes for a fragrant touch.
  • Different cheeses: Experiment with other cheeses like Gruyère or Parmesan for a different flavor profile.
  • Add a crunchy topping: Top with breadcrumbs or crushed crackers for a crispy finish
