Ingredients
For the Patties
1 lb ground beef (85% lean)
⅓ cup breadcrumbs (panko recommended)
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
1 egg (or flax egg for vegan substitute)
1 teaspoon garlic powder (or fresh minced garlic)
Salt and black pepper, to taste
For the Gravy
2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
1 cup sliced mushrooms (cremini, baby bella, or white mushrooms)
1 medium onion, finely sliced
2 cups beef broth (or vegetable broth)
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour (or cornstarch slurry for gluten-free)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan (if using), egg, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined, then shape into 4–6 patties.
 - Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear patties for 3–4 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
 - In the same skillet, heat remaining olive oil. Sauté mushrooms and onions for 5 minutes, until softened and lightly caramelized.
 - Pour in beef broth, scraping browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and flour slurry, simmering for 5–7 minutes until gravy thickens.
 - Return patties to the skillet, spooning gravy over them. Cover and simmer on low for 10 minutes until cooked through.
 - Serve hot with mashed potatoes, noodles, or rice. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes
-
Use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
 -
For vegetarian Salisbury steak, substitute lentil or mushroom patties and vegetable broth.
 -
Use nutritional yeast instead of Parmesan for a dairy-free option.
 -
Baking option: cook patties at 375°F for 20–25 minutes, then simmer in gravy.
