Description

These Homemade Savory Breakfast Pastries are a delicious, quick, and customizable treat perfect for any meal of the day. With flaky puff pastry, savory cheese, and sautéed vegetables, these pastries are an easy way to elevate your morning routine. Whether for breakfast, brunch, or a quick snack, they come together in under an hour, making them ideal for busy mornings or gatherings with friends and family. The best part? They are fully customizable, so you can adjust the fillings to suit your taste!

Ingredients

1 package puff pastry sheets (thawed)

1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)

¼ cup fresh herbs (parsley or chives, finely chopped)

1 cup sautéed vegetables (bell peppers, onions, spinach, or your choice)

1 egg (beaten with water for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

  2. Prepare the Filling: In a bowl, mix the shredded cheese, sautéed vegetables, and chopped herbs. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

    1. You can sauté your choice of vegetables (bell peppers, onions, spinach) until soft, or use leftovers to save time.

  3. Roll Out the Puff Pastry: On a floured surface, roll the puff pastry to about 1/8 inch thick. Cut the pastry into squares or rectangles, depending on your preference.

  4. Assemble the Pastries: Place a spoonful of the filling on one half of each pastry square. Fold the pastry over the filling, then press the edges together with a fork to seal.

  5. Add the Egg Wash: Brush the pastries with a beaten egg wash (egg mixed with a little water) to give them a golden, crispy finish.

  6. Bake the Pastries: Arrange the pastries on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.

  7. Serve: Let the pastries cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy them warm for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Fillings: You can use a variety of fillings like sautéed mushrooms, bacon, sausage, or spinach to suit your preferences. Get creative with different combinations!
  • Cheese: Feta, goat cheese, or gruyère can be substituted for cheddar or mozzarella to add new flavors.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days at room temperature, or refrigerate them for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F for 5-10 minutes to restore their crispiness.
