Description

French Bread Sloppy Joes is a delicious twist on the classic recipe, combining savory sloppy joe filling with cheesy goodness on a toasted French bread base. Perfect for a quick and satisfying meal!

Ingredients

For The Bread

  • 1 loaf French bread or Italian bread
  • 1/2 cup Butter, softened
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp Kosher salt

For The Sloppy Joe Mixture

  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 1/4 cup Yellow onion, diced
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Yellow mustard
  • 3/4 cup Ketchup
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp Kosher salt
  • 1/4 tsp Black pepper
  • 1/2 cup Water

For The Topping

  • 1 cup Pepper Jack cheese, grated
  • 1 cup Cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1 tbsp Parsley, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Slice the bread in half lengthwise and place on a lined baking sheet.
  2. Mix butter, garlic powder, and salt. Spread evenly on bread slices. Bake for 10 minutes until golden brown. Set aside. Reduce oven temperature to 350°F.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with onions. Drain excess grease.
  4. Add water, ketchup, mustard, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper to the beef. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. Add the cheddar cheese and pepper jack cheese to a bowl and mix until combined well.
  6. Spread the Sloppy Joe mixture evenly on the bread halves. Top with both cheeses.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 10-12 minutes until the cheese is melted. Optional: Broil for 1 minute for a golden top.
  8. Remove from oven, let rest for a few minutes. Garnish with parsley, slice, and serve.

Notes

  • Leftover Storage & Reheating: Let any leftover French Bread Sloppy Joes cool to room temperature, then wrap them in foil or store in an airtight container in the fridge, where they’ll be good for 3-4 days. When you’re ready to reheat, pop them in a preheated 350°F oven for about 10-15 minutes, or if you’re in a hurry, give them a quick zap in the microwave for 30-60 seconds.
