Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 medium onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 teaspoon ground cumin

1 teaspoon chili powder

Instructions

  1. Prepare the bread dough:
    In a small bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water and sprinkle the yeast over it. Let it sit for 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
    In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil, then stir to combine. Knead the dough for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover the dough and let it rise for 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  2. Cook the beef filling:
    While the dough is rising, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, cooking until softened, about 4 minutes.
    Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned, about 7 minutes. Stir in soy sauce, cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Continue cooking for another 2 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
  3. Shape the pan bread:
    Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 2 equal portions. Roll out one portion into a round shape on a lightly floured surface.
    Place the beef mixture in the center of the dough, then fold the edges over to seal the filling inside. Place the bread on a greased baking sheet and repeat with the second portion of dough.
  4. Bake the bread:
    Bake in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
    Let the bread cool slightly before cutting.
