Description

This Crockpot Cheesesteak Potato Casserole is a hearty and comforting dish perfect for busy weeknights or lazy weekends. Layers of tender potatoes, savory ground beef, and a cheesy topping come together in the slow cooker for a satisfying meal the whole family will love.

Ingredients

For the Base

  • 1 lb ground beef (or thinly sliced steak for a traditional cheesesteak twist)
  • 4 cups diced potatoes (Yukon Gold recommended)
  • 1 medium onion, chopped

For the Sauce

  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Cheese Topping

  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella or provolone cheese
  • Optional: sliced green onions for garnish
  • Substitutions

    • Ground beef → Shredded chicken or ground turkey
    • Cheese → Use vegan mozzarella for a dairy-free option
    • Potatoes → Try sweet potatoes for a different flavor profile

Instructions

  1. Prep StepsPeel and dice the potatoes into ½-inch chunks. Chop the onion.
  2. Cooking StepsBrown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain excess fat. Layer potatoes, onions, and cooked beef in the crockpot in that order. In a bowl, mix beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Pour the sauce mixture evenly over the layered ingredients. Cover and cook:
    • LOW for 6–7 hours
    • HIGH for 3–4 hours

30 minutes before serving, sprinkle shredded cheese on top. Cover again until melted and bubbly.

Notes

  • Storage & ReheatingStore in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave with a splash of broth or milk to maintain creaminess. Freeze leftovers in individual portions for up to 2 months.
