Description

Ayran is a traditional Turkish yogurt drink made with yogurt, water, and salt. This 5-Minute Ayran recipe is refreshing, light, and perfect for hot days or as a cooling accompaniment to meals. Smooth, slightly tangy, and optionally infused with mint, this healthy Turkish beverage is quick to prepare, versatile, and loved worldwide.

Ingredients

2 cups full-fat yogurt (plain or Greek yogurt)

2.5 cups cold water

1/21 teaspoon salt, to taste

2 teaspoons dry mint (optional)

Ice cubes, for serving

Fresh mint leaves, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Yogurt:
Pour yogurt into a jug or bowl. Whisk until smooth and free of lumps.
  2. Add Water:
Add half of the cold water and whisk to combine. Then add the remaining water.
  3. Add Flavoring:
Stir in salt and dry mint (if using). Whisk thoroughly until the mixture is smooth. Taste and adjust water or salt if needed.
  4. Chill and Serve:
Refrigerate until ready to serve. Add ice cubes for a refreshing drink. Garnish with fresh mint leaves.

Notes

  • Plain Ayran: Skip the mint for a classic taste.
  • Thicker Version: Use less water for a creamier texture, especially if adding ice cubes later.
  • Herbal Twist: Experiment with parsley or dill for a unique flavor.
